Three-piece D tabor pipe

The temperature was starting to feel more autumnal. Even though we keep complaining about how hot it is, it always cools down before we know it. Usually, mosquitoes appear in large numbers when the weather cools down a little, and then become aggressive in their final stages of activity, but this year I managed to get through it with the help of Japanese mosquito coils. Well, it was a tough struggle, with me getting sick and work getting busy along the way, but I have finished the three-piece D tabor pipe as shown in the picture. I’m still working on creating the sound, but this is the end of the […]

New tabor pipe in D

The news says that the rainy season starts the day before yesterday. It’s going to be humid for a while. Cherry tomatoes and cucumbers are being harvested every day in the small vegetable garden in the yard. This year, bitter melons have made a nice green curtain for the windows. I looked this morning and there were about five fruits on them. It’s been a while since I’ve finished making a tabor pipe. The body is made of black cherry stained with Kobaishi. The head is African blackwood. I’m thinking of trying it out for a few months and making any adjustments before selling it.

Replacing Tabor head

One side is REMO’s Coated Emperor, and the other side is REMO’s Ambassador Renaissance. I prefer the Coated Emperor, which has a drum-like sound, to the Ambassador Renaissance, which has a brighter sound.

Tabor pipe in D

In spring, the weather is not stable, it can be sunny or cloudy, and it seems like there will be a lot of rain this year. Perhaps due to global warming, there are some days where it feels hotter than usual. It takes a lot of work to plant summer vegetables and other things in a small vegetable garden. One tabor pipe in D. The body is made of ABS resin and the head is made of ebony. The photo in the back is a Tabor made with a 6-inch drum head. The sound will depend on the drum head it’s use, so I’m thinking of purchasing one that’s a little […]

New pipe and tabor

It’s been a while since I posted. I’ve been a little busy that I haven’t been able to update the article. Although it was a cold season, I was working on it little by little while keeping warm with the stove in my workshop. Some pipes failed and some worked. The one on the left is a loud whistle for outdoor use, and the two on the right are one-handed whistles with a relatively low sound. The brown head is made of rosewood, the black one is ebony, and the red one is made of padauk.

One more Tabor

I haven’t been able to update it for quite some time, but the one more tabor I was making was completed recently. From mid-November, I became busy with personal matters, so I didn’t have time to work on woodturning, and in mid-December, when I thought things had calmed down a bit, I caught a cold, and I finally got over it. If you’re wondering about it, it’s already the end of the year. Today I pruned the plum tree, which I was thinking of doing as well. This year, we used a chainsaw to remove some large branches. It was hard to clean up and I was a little tired. […]

Turning a tabor

First, cut a piece of light Falcata wood, glue it together with Woodbond, and tighten it with rope. After that, I cut it down to fit an 8-inch drum head. Falcata wood is soft and easy to scrape, but it produces a lot of cutting chips, so if you don’t do a good job of collecting the dust, the chips will fly out and be a problem. I’m going to clean it frequently and scraping it. I use a gouge to get the shape and dimensions, but then finish with a skew. Since the diameter is large, you need to be careful when cutting with a skew. If the tip […]

Aluminum Taborpipe

Sometimes I want to leave from wood and make a whistle out of aluminum. Aluminum has low surface friction and excellent acoustics, so it can easily produce high-tone sounds. Best of all, if you use a pipe with a thickness of 0.5mm, you can make it slightly thinner, allowing you to create a whistle with a unique shape. This Tabor pipe uses the boxwood for the head and connection part.

New tabor

I’m still tightening the rope at the trial stage. I make sound it little by little every day and see the change in sound. Of course, different drum heads produce different sounds. After a little while, I would like to report what each one sounds like. The red rope became an accent as intended.

Boxwood tabor pipe

I haven’t polished this one yet, but when I polish it, it will have a plastic-like luster. After all, boxwood is a treasure-like material for woodworkers who create small items. The comfort when cutting is superior to other wood.
